1.General Information
In the total number of hospitals in Turkey, the percentage of Public Hospitals is 76%, whereas this percentage reaches 82% in the Black Sea region and 86% in Samsun. The percentage of Private Hospitals in Black Sea region is generally lower than the national average, namely 4% in the Region and 14% in Samsun.
Considering the number of beds, the figure for public hospitals both in national and in regional level are found to be relatively high. .
1.1. Fertility
The number of children per adult woman in Samsun had demonstrated an increase until 1960, when the figures started to decline. Whereas the rate was 74.7 children per a thousand adult women in 1960, this figure decreased to 40.1 children per a thousand women.

1.2. Infant Mortality
Infant mortality rate in Samsun has been declining since 1967, parallel to the pattern observed on national level. Whereas 157 of 1000 live births died before turning 1 in 1967, 48 of 1000 live births dies before turning 1 in 1997.
